Ten Commandments Through the Ages

The Ten Commandments, the first laws God gave Israel at Mt. Sinai, are some of the most familiar teachings in the Bible. They have also shaped how we teach about faith, have sparked debates in political circles, and inspired film and television productions. Why are the Ten Commandments so important and influential? And, what are they really saying?

SPU Professor of Biblical Studies Sara Koenig will share from her book about the content of the Ten Commandments and how they have been interpreted over the ages but will invite audience participation to consider how we could apply them to our own lives and situations today. Ultimately, the Ten Commandments are not simply an ancient list of commands to be followed; they are an invitation into living life in such a way in 2026 that we can love God and love our neighbors better.
