Out of My Mind Watch Party

Bethany Green Lake, 8023 Green Lake Dr N, Seattle, WA 98103

Out of My Mind tells the story of Melody Brooks, a sixth grader with cerebral palsy, has a quick wit and a sharp mind, but because she is non-verbal and uses a wheelchair, she is not given the same opportunities as her classmates. When a young educator notices her student’s untapped potential and Melody starts to participate in mainstream education, Melody shows that what she has to say is more important than how she says it.

This movie will be the first movie in which the main character has a physical disability (rare in itself) that is being played by an actor with the same disability. Representation, and by extension this movie, is kind of a big deal. We feel like celebrating, and we hope you will join us!

The movie will start at 3:30 PM, followed by a hearty snack, and time to hang out with each other afterwords. This movie is meant for all ages. Please feel free to invite family and friends, the more the merrier! There is an optional, suggested donation of five dollars per group to help with the cost of food. If you are able to participate in that way, we would be grateful, but if this presents a barrier, please do not worry about it.

Our event will be featured in a wheelchair accessible, sensory friendly space. We will have a sensory space for all who need some room to move in addition to sensory items and headphones. Accessible bathrooms are available as well

See a trailer for the movie here.
